    Distant Lamposts

    One evening I journeyed to a point
    Equally distant

    Between two points of light
    The shadow cast before me
    Wavering long and wan

    Looking back towards flight
    The shadow cast behind me
    Just as equally long and wan

    Two lights both distant and dim

    Two shadows near and grim

    The shadows raised a hand in time

    Providence their source was mine

    But just one miscreant
    And I think that is the point
