A War of Words
Just in case you haven’t heard
Life is a war of words
Verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and nouns
That can lift you up or bring you down
And it seems the best defense
Is prayer and common sense
A sound bite at just the right
Times can make a day seem dark as night
Barbs and blurbs like missiles can come
From poisonous lips leaving lives undone
Rabble rousing, stirring the pot
Making routine situations hot
Missiles from minds with strong opinion
Can destroy lives as they seek dominion
With racial sorties bombarding the brain
With opinions that may drive insane
And what some fail to see
Are words of foreign policy
Can be anything to keep the poor
In a third world condition
Always needing more
While they raid the coffers of mind and emotion
Demanding that we defend the notion
That patriotism be reduced to such a broad theme
As buying into a fear that erodes the American Dream
Shock and Awe from the bully pulpit
Has a nation divided because of it
And just in case you haven’t heard
Life is truly a War of Words
