How Some Things Stay the Same

How Some Things Stay the Same

The sad actuality is that Police Brutality
In this new millennium is still a reality
And the membership to this strange fraternity
Is to be Black or Latino or some other minority

And Racial Profiling is ethnic styling
That doesn’t leave any minority smiling
When brutal beat down is the price you pay
And membership dues are due any day

You pick the wrong cop with an attitude
Whose badge seems to give him the latitude
To go up side your head, with little said
By the governing body leaving you with dread

Are you a potential victim of a crime
Hidden in the opacity of the thin blue line
    Because your most major sin
Is at the minimum, color of skin

And black cops are just as likely to
Beat the literal crap out of you
    In my eyes very unprofessional
But in the scheme of life very probable

Is this what Blacks and whites marched for
In the civil rights glory days of yore
This doesn’t mean all policeman are bad
But the ones that are makes it seem so sad

For us living in such an enlightened society
To still live under a potential threat of Police Brutality
The bottom line is it’s a crying shame
How in any day and time some things stays the same

    H. Wilson
