On Our Guard
On Our Guard
Eight years ago our nation was awakened
By tragic events that literally shakened
To the foundation a world and nation
Sparking a time of angst and frustration
A world watched as Towers fell
Signaling the start of a walk through hell
As planes struck the Pentagon
The World Trade Center and beyond
While brave heroes on flight 93
Paid the ultimate price for our liberty
By giving their lives so that we
Who still lived could be free
And on this day we fondly recall
The memories of those who did fall
With the destruction that had come
Signaling uncertain times had begun
And we the people watched helplessly
As many that day died needlessly
Because of a fanatic’s insanity
That made transparent our vanity
Believing we were untouchable
Finding attacking us was possible
Awakened us to the reality
That we must be on our guard constantly
In Memory of 911’s Heroes
