"ONE DAY AT A TIME"
"ONE DAY AT A TIME"I called my "friend" one day
Told him to meet me at the "spot"
I had something important to say
He was there when I arrived
We sat and chatted about nothing
Then I dropped the bomb-what I had strived
I thought he'd be happy, for this was good news
Or so I thought, I drank a long time
Alcohol was my drug of choice, what I'd abuse
When he got up and and walked away
It dawned on me then
This would force him to look at himself; just not today
I stared after him wishing it were not true
To lose the booze from my life
Meant that I'd lose people too
So sad it is to find out who really cares
In such a harsh manner when you get sober
Better to lose the "friends" then to fall down the stairs
That was almost twenty years ago
My life has changed in many ways
A "Higher Power" yes, the booze, no!
