"TODAY I HONOR YOU!"
TODAY I HONOR YOU!
{Dori Wheeler 14sept09}
Today is a day to honor those who deserve
So many to count
So many who have served
Brave women and men
Risking their lives
Not just now, but also then
I have a special person in mind
This would be my dad
He was without a doubt, one of a kind
He spent my entire life and most of his
Doing what he loved most
He was an Encon Officer, and I was so proud of this
His life was dedicated to protecting Mother Earth
The animals and the environment
This was his call since birth
He was a highly decorated officer of the law
Not just by the state, but also by the USA
Letters from presidents decorated his wall
He worked with the Secret Service at the Army Navy Game
Held at West Point
I am so proud of him and his name
Too many accomplishments to count
Still a humble, ordinary man
All of his credits, he did not mount
Over forty five years he served his state
Dying two weeks after retiring
Nothing could be done, we were too late
Of all his accomplishments, his best was being my dad
It's only been a year and a half since he left me
I will always and forever be sad
Bagpipes, honor guard, 21gun salute and taps
These at his memorial service
Yet not enough feathers in his cap
Dad, today I honor you
You are my hero until MY dying day
For everything and all that you could possibly do!
