    D. O'Dell

Here he lies on hallowed ground.
    Saintly man. Heaven bound.

Eyes are shut and he's reclined.
Dressed his best and so refined.
No longer will he do his job
Who is it who'll get the nod?

    Passing here within his hovel,
who will now pick up his shovel?
It was he, the one in town,
who dressed us up and put us down.

So here we are, we'll find another.
Perhaps t'will be his younger brother,
    dress in black with stiff necked collar;
he'll serve us well in Sleepy Holler.

This one is a winner. You know, you never want an undertaker to say "I'll see you soon." lol ...In Michigan we have a late-night D.J. who comes on with all kinds of info about health. His name is Doctor Dean O'Dell. Talk to you soon. Anita-you-know-who.

On the radio probram - he had a way of speaking, and would make sundertaker jokes. He would introduce himself by saying - It's Digger O'Dell - the friendly UNDER-taker... Ah, the old [er] days.

I never heard of this saintly man nor heard of his radio show. I only know that O'Dell if I understood correctly ran a radio show. I was told this by a friend I met here and though I am interested cannot make a comment. However, as always, your verses are interesting and well written.

But, at least I got to know he was a friendly undertaker and trying to imagine a script for the radio show long ago.

The Undertaker is now six-feet under. Love the poem.

The model was "Digger O'Dell" 'The Frendly Undertaker," from 'old time' radio. Glad you like him.

I sense a mischievous air of stoic existentialism here, and before I read this poem, I didn’t know such a concept was even possible… ha ha.

When radio was radio, on one of the programs Digger O'Dell [the friendly undertaker, showed up. This is to him.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
