Small - bent and mighty

Poem Commentary

Just an excercise - picturing how once an Oriental might find a bosai to take home.

Small - bent and mighty

High on a cliff, just out of reach
In the cold crisp mountain air
Bent and gnarled is its trunk
The tree stood proud and fair

Not much soil the roots could grasp
Not much water it could drink
Half starved its entire life
It sits lonely on the brink

Hold my feet that I might reach
And separate rock from root
Hold on tight I'll wrench the trunk
Now pull back on my boot

A lovely thing, and old it is
We'll enjoy it you and I
We'll put it in a special place
And share our own bonsai

Not too much is needed
It's lovely from its strife
It shall now grow old with us
And be a part of our life

These small trees can live
For centuries I am told
With just the right amount of care
So slowly it grows old

I stand before this lovely thing
I bow my head in awe
I honor its struggling years
Surviving winters raw

A bird once dropped a seed
And proudly it took hold
Yet now it is part of me
Its home is my abode

Very very nice WO. The majesty of even the most gnarled of trees is magnificent.....................Hampton

I am embarrassed by the 'you and I,' but I needed it for rhyme. Sorry.

Very beautiful. It's delicately laced with respect for nature. A sage writer telling the tale of the sage old tree...I like it!

If sage means 82 - I made it.'-) Your comments are important 2 me

Stryx. It is wonderful how, with love, not too many of what are perceived as necessities are needed. Drew.

I absolutely love this quiet and thoughtful work my friend, a true thing of beauty, not unlike a Bonsai!;)

Thank you for your comment Sam. We are that tree, we are the pruner and must provide nourishment. But our size doesn't matter - strength does.

The title is not you . Maybe what you see but not others Marie

Someone is funny here - not sure who.'-)

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
