The Immortal

Do not speak to me of God, it does not touch my heart
I only know what's in my hand so I can do my part
No amount of prayer will soften any blow
But in my heart of hearts, I will endure I know

There is no sacred book on which I can rely
For all the books are made by men, and all are made to lie
I seek no mysterious Specter to bring me guilt or fear
I accept no nonsense. To life I hold on dear

I look to the Spirit in man. The Spirit exclusive of God
I accept no false religions. To man's heart I give the nod
So let me die in peace, Dear Heart - I know where I will go
And I'll return again to you - it's the one thing that I know

oh now i know why u despise so many of my poems....it seems as if u are angry perhaps at God? well i see why my poems get such poor ratings from u, but i mean no disrespect everyone has their own opinion and it should be respected because its an unique thought of another being, so yea i mean no disrespect or anything....everyone is different. and anyways i like the poem...it gets a 10

I dispise no one's poetry.I merely expect that poetry be diverse. And that they be reasonably metered. Nor am I angry with 'God.'I try to look behind the curtain, that's all.

Ok, well I withdraw my last assumption, it was incorrect and a bit judgeful i must admit. Please excuse my behaivor and perhaps i too am looking behind the curtains in life....

Many feel the same way these days as it becomes more and more difficult for organized religion to provide answers to the horrors that occur in this world. I am still searchinbg.

I feel certain I understand the answer.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
