Lasting Love

Lasting Love

The first time our eyes met
I felt may face get red
I knew I lost control though
      not a word was said

Chills ran up and down my spine
I felt my knees go weak. My palms got wet, My mouth went dry
      And I could hardly speak

 Looking at you across breakfast
      Those feelings all return
I knew our love was most dear
For the flames within still burn

It is not a remembrance of long ago
      That I am speaking of
That first flush of love I felt for you
I still do my love - I still do

A beautiful and simple declaration of love delivered in soft tones that enhance its message.

I wrote that not long before my Bride died. I never read the poem to her. She wouldn't have understood.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
