Back in the Day
Remember back in the day, the music and how we dancedWhen "LL" wrote about needing love, and romance
Run DMC was hot, Hammer and those pants
Door knocker earing, dookie chains, bracelets, rings on the hand
Back in those days, a wise man once told
Me to keep my feet on the ground, the streets were cold
To keep my enemies close, but my loved ones even more
Because they'd be the ones, to kick in your door
These were the days, when you had to know how to fight
Knuckle up, go hard, earn respect despite
Of a win or a loss, you handles your own
This is how it was, in the city I was grown
Remember back in the day, sitting in the project
In the courtyard watching the B-Ball game, on the steps
Cops up and down, we could hear the sirens
Ice cream from the bodega, pop lids off hydrens
So the water could spray, no beaches in my hood
But it didn't matter, things were all good
Old folks on the stoop, watching us run
Listening to oldies, drinking beer, that's how they had fun
Calling us for dinner, a little after dark
Chasing the finest girl you knew, didn't want to have to part
Say goodnight, and go seperate ways
These are the things I remember, form back in the day
