Fog

The fog descends again,
Obscuring the light from my sight.
You would think I'd be used to it by now,
That a little sun would burn it away easily.
But no.
No, it settles like it always does, shrouding me in darkness.

Some things slip through and thin the haze.
Her smile, his laugh, a long-awaited in embrace.
But the darkness that seems to have evaporated is still there.
It wait, biding its time, to envelop me.
When I am alone it returns.
It returns to consume me.

Oh how I wish to be free of it.
I want to feel the sun on my face and know it won't slip behind the clouds again.
I pray for the day when insecurities and doubts no longer slip through my mind like smoke.
One day may the fog finally lift.
Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day.
