Thinking of You
I lay here thinking of you.
In this darkened room I imagine your arms around me.
I dream of being cocooned in their strength.
How empty our bed feels without you in it beside me.
I dream of you surrounding me.
I feel your hands pressed against my belly,
My own traces over yours cradling our child,
This sweet and precious life we created together.
I picture her in your arms the day she is born.
This sweet and precious life we created together.
I picture her in your arms the day she is born.
This brings me comfort.
When the nightmares come I bury my face in your pillow,
I inhale your scent.
You smell of soap and memories and something I can't place.
I inhale and I am soothed.
Soothed and calmed.
Soothed and calmed.
I want to be held by you forever.
With you I know I am safe and loved and treasured.
You're teaching me my worth.
You are showing me I'm not the worthless person or the failure I've always believed myself to be.
With you I am happy.
I hope I do the same for you.
I pray you realize how wonderful you are,
How special you are, especially to me.
There is no one out there like you.
Sometimes I can't believe I get to call you mine.
Maybe this is a dream,
If it is, may I never wake.
