    Poem Commentary

I apologize if some things are spelled wrong.
I just typed this up real quick out of my C.P. notebook.

This was a reflection to a poem that my teacher read in class.

    The Iceberg Theory

    Normally
    I go for blue eyes.
I've never found a boy with brown
    eyes that were so beautiful.

    I've told him before
    that I liked his eyes.
And I like to refer to them as
    "The Autumn Theory."

    I guess that way
    it's easier
    than describing all the colors
    that sit thoughfully
    on the clear surface
    behind the lids.

    Today I learned something new.
It's easy to like brown eyes,
but the process of going from
    the blue eyed, Iceberg Theory,
    into the Hazel, Autumn Theory
    was much more
    meaningful.

The depth to this goes so far beyond just the colors swimming behind the eyelids, Brandi... I love the 'theories' and I wonder if the Iceberg theory has a double meaning.. warm vs. cold? Regardless... this is ANOTHER fantastic write from you!

I think it is endearing the way you experienced the closness of the colors of the eyes... which occurs in the pensive, sloow, eye to eye contact searching discovery of the other one, within...

I loved your "Autumn Theory"...The warmth living in a certain pair of eyes, can hold you captive...sometimes even for 28 yrs...lol Great poem, I enjoyed it so much!

I do not read many free verse poems from fellow teenagers because I think of them as " Love-is-Pain" Poems. They will write, trying to be sophisticated, but there product is mediocre. You; however, have created a poem that is simple, yet so sophisticated.

"but the process of going from the blue eyed, Iceberg Theory, into the Hazel, Autumn Theory was much more meaningful" — beautiful line and theory, as my eyes are hazel I will have to agree.

    Thank you. :)
