The Wings Are Falling Off

    The Wings Are Falling Off

    She turned away from me
and she didn't smile as she did.
Casting a shadow over my life
as her wings began to fall off.
She said goodbye to what we once knew.
I blinked and it was gone.
I knew I'd see her again,
    but not in this life.
    When she's gone, she's gone.
She goes somewhere too dark for me to see.
    There's this cliff,
    and below it's an ocean.
There she resides and lets go.
    Her fingers skim the surface.
Her glances freeze the sun as it rests on top of the water.
    Seagulls fly above-head.
As their loose feathers enjoy the downward ride.
Warm, salty, air reminds her of the times she was there for me.
It was tough, but we made it through.
    She hides in caves
    that pepper the shore.
In them she listens to the waves
    hitting the rugged walls.
She counts the starfish that have died and now become one with the rocks.
    In some places,
the salt deposits gather in large masses
like the memories in her head.
All she can think about are the seagulls and how they still have their wings.

This is a brilliant piece of creative writing, filled with elaborately laced surreal imagery taking the reader off of the cliff and into the beauty of your heart. The pleasure here is in your command of the language and your magical delivery.

Your words mean a lot to me, coming from a writer of your standards.... The fact that you can find beauty in my work is beyond me, but that you like it makes me very happy. Thank you.

    Absolutely True,. Well-Said!

Brandy, THis is a very nicely written piece. So much insight for someone your age. The storyline and the imagery are both beautiful and sad..... Very nice work! :) Ken

Thanks again. I am glad that you like my work. :) Someone has to. Ha ha.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
