Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem after having a dream about my ex boyfriend who I will never stop loving.

The Oceans In Between

Forever is so seldomly used in such a serious tone.
For you, it means the freedom of calling my broken heart "home."

For the light, fingers searching, for the voice I can't ignore.
For you it's like this love is so much worth fighting for.

I cannot understand ignorance that reads me in my sleep.
Or accept the quiet lies that haunt me as I weep.

For you the light's not far away, if you'd just out reach your hand.
But the pain of you not being here is more than I can stand.

My bed that used to be so warm has now grown so cold.
And the smile I would share with you has emotionally grown old.

Tattered edges of my heart give way to nights spent alone.
If only you could see me now, for how much I have grown.

I will hold on now, to the way we should always be,
But the memories that have blinded me make it hard to see.

I will force through the dead layers of the tears I've shed for you
Because I know, in the end, that's what you'd want me to do.

You are so far, but I can see you, your heart lights my way.
And the sound of your voice through the reciever leaves me with words I cannot say.

We will hold onto what we used to be, with smiles, so real.
And loving touches captivate the way I truly feel

Blind love for the bravest lovers is sometimes far too keen,
as their burning hearts evaporate the oceans in between.

Change alone is eternal, perpetual and immortal. Arthur Schopenhauer Love is metaphoric for metamorphosis; as it reshapes our lives and way of thinking. While this may hold some positive aspects overall, it can often in turn cause much pain and sorrow. While it may hold some truth, the old adage ‘it is best to love, then to never have loved at all’, holds little comfort when accepting the loss of one’s mate. Well written piece.

Thank you for understanding... It is hard to be so far away from someone when they mean the world to you... Thank you for the wonderful comment. :)

A broken heart never forgets. This is beautiful and sad and honest. Take comfort in the fact you have the talent to express it well enough for others to appreciate.

I love this poem. Its one of the best Ive read. I can completely relate. Its so hard trying to move on, but in the end you just come out so much stronger. The longer you linger on the past the harder it is to create a future...

No. I meant what I wrote. But I see where the confusion came from. Thanks for reading.

i like this found somthing that made no seance if you'd just out reach your hand. do u mean if you'd just out reach by a hand or somthing else

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
