lessons in loss
sweetest child what can I say
these things breathe such regret
my heart breaks on sorry's
that you've known so much of death
at thirteen you should not have lost
so many you held dear
three grandmothers, a grandfather
and two friends in the last year
life, I guess, is like this
we're powerless in our fear
you never know what the next day holds
so love them while they're here
hold your head up high my son
you don't have to hide your tears
grieve your losses, then move on
it's life...we persevere
so stand beneath the morning sun
and raise your voice to heaven
fists clenched and your face screwed tight
scream out to God your question
but don't expect clear answers
death is something we all face
the sudden loss of those we love
helps us find our shape
come child, I have a shoulder still
you're welcome to cry there
let loving arms enfold you
while you struggle with despair
you are not alone...ever.
these things breathe such regret
my heart breaks on sorry's
that you've known so much of death
at thirteen you should not have lost
so many you held dear
three grandmothers, a grandfather
and two friends in the last year
life, I guess, is like this
we're powerless in our fear
you never know what the next day holds
so love them while they're here
hold your head up high my son
you don't have to hide your tears
grieve your losses, then move on
it's life...we persevere
so stand beneath the morning sun
and raise your voice to heaven
fists clenched and your face screwed tight
scream out to God your question
but don't expect clear answers
death is something we all face
the sudden loss of those we love
helps us find our shape
come child, I have a shoulder still
you're welcome to cry there
let loving arms enfold you
while you struggle with despair
you are not alone...ever.
