    nine days in turlock

spent nine days in turlock once
    a most unpleasant town
    redolent of grass that's spent
    it's time inside of cows
and let's not forget the motel eight
    where hookers do abound
    hanging from their doorways
    in slinky little gowns
a little girl with ribboned hair
would show up on her bike
to ply her trade, a flesh brigade
    a most disturbing sight
but the truckers seemed to like it fine

spent nine days in turlock once
    training the latest new hire
    splitting my commissions with
    this unrepentant liar
the highlight of the trip no doubt
    was on the fateful day
I sat inside a clients house
and asked how he earned his pay
when he said that he milked steers
I did not know what to say (would you?)

    nine days stuck in turlock
with the trainee and the whores
men "milking" steers, while truckers cheered
    for beribboned, jail-bait score
    manure a persistent foul smell
is it really any wonder that
I called it my prelude to hell?

they say that Bakersfield is the armpit of CA - if so, Turlock is the other....no joke :) I tried to make it funny, but that is honest to God a true story :)

This poem has less music than many of your others allowing it, in my opinion, to stand on its own w/ only a minimum of lyrical magic standing between the reader and the back beat box slow, slow tempo of life in that ugly town.

Go to Hell. Hell, Michigan that is. Believe it or not, it's 1,000 times worse. I couldn't help but laughing at this one, mainly because I know precisely what you're talking about. Great piece. A 10.

Such a town, such a client and stuck in Turlock would be hell. You always have a way with writing about life. This is well cone.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
