    The Willow Weeps

From the tall weeping willow hug my childhood friend
Upside down like a bat hanging from it's feet
Soaring through the air like a kite catches the wind
If she could have took flight
Hanging from a rope dangling by her foot
Like a trapeze artist twirled like a top
Her small legs entangled with rope
    Never seemed to stop
Me I sat on the branches for fear I would fall
    She no fear at all
Many years we played on that tree
The branches got bigger so did we
    Housing our childhood memories weeped
Grown up she left service bound
    Never to see her again
    I lost my little friend
In the war that was then
Now my children sit on it's branches
    Twirling like she
Me I still sit in fear I might fall
Remembering how it was watching the children play
In my heart I along with the weeping willow weep
From the loss of my friend

Betty, An intense poem about a past memory and how it still affects you to this day. The poem has a bittersweet feel and sadness over the loss of your friend. ginga

A lovely write. Not as smooth in rhythm, not much rhyme but your ability to relate emotions and paint pictures in other peoples minds was right on time. Write on....

Reading this poem of yours, Betty, it reminded me of Forest Gump. He and she sitting on a limb of the big tree...wishing it could last forever. A truly warm and sincere piece......................g

When I am tired from a trying day I grab my guitar and gather my four legged critters and go sit and play, sometimes all night long, under my beautiful weeping willow tree. It's my favorite and most comfortable place. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem. LOL, BDC

You are a true poet, words come to you so easy and full of wisdom.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
