The Door
The mysterious door swung open,
Casting a dim blue glow.
But darkness still pervaded all,
And life seemed very slow.
I thought I heard a laugh
Echo through the dark,
The laugh of lovers, dead and gone -
Two ghosts, so bare and stark.
I wonder what occurred here,
In lives all passed and gone.
Did the answer lie behind
The door and glow beyond?
I slowly walked towards the door,
My mind completely blank.
With one great breath I crossed the threshold,
The air was dark and dank.
I had been told my greatest threat
Lay beyond the door.
Would this foe attack me here
And make me breathe no more?
With forced step I crossed the mark,
I never thought I'd be so scared!
For when I stared at this great threat,
Into my own face I stared.
