The Eclipse of the Moon
You'll see me standing there, as you look back,
Gazing at the stars when the moon turned black.
A red glow cast over all, a glow in my eyes,
I was happy then when we said our goodbyes.
You left me there in the quiet, the peace,
Standing alone feeling the release.
The owls close by knew that we'd done right,
As they hooted a salute in the dead of the night.
The calm breeze moved me, made me feel,
Made me pray that this night was real.
You walked away, I saw you go out of sight,
Leaving me there in the dim, red light.
A pitch black spread over all as I stood there,
Standing on the grass, feeling the breeze in my hair.
I looked at the stars and thought of you,
The way we'd ended it there in the red moon's hue.
On the night of the eclipse I lay on the ground,
Looking at the sky without a sound.
It was the perfect way to leave our ways,
Those long-ago nights and endless days.
I'm still lying there just watching the sky,
Letting the world in sleep just pass me by.
I knew it wasn't the end – I'd see you soon,
I knew it there in the eclipse of the moon.
