"I Once Had A Friend"
"I Once Had A Friend"
I once had a friend named Ron
I called him Popsicle Nose
one night I made love to a real foxy lady
"local boy makes good" he said
only the Popsicle knows, I laughed
I once had a friend named Wayne who died
I cried and I cried and cried
the best of pals we were
followed by girls in a store
we laughed
outside the store we laughed
outside the door we roared
I had a friend named Steve
whose eyes would twinkle when he did Bullwhinkle
Pam and I would wrinkle our faces and laugh
and then we'd laugh some more
I had a friend in Chuck
who didn't give a buck
a very handsome dude who drank beer for his food
I loved him way back then and hope to see him again
I once had a friend named Bruce
who died from heroin juice
a kinder, sweeter man, I never hope to know
until he shot dope with Joe y
I once had a friend in Joey
til I saw how phony he is
when poor Brucie died just grabbed his gear and ran
and didn't help the man
I once had a friend in John
who one time took me wrong
who wouldn't take my call
once I asked him way this was his reply
I thought you might a need a place to stay
what kind of friend is that?
I had a friend named Don
who did me really wrong
for a crime he made
made sure that that I would pay
and pay and pay
I still have a few good friends
no longer will I depend
that's how I've come to feel
since selfishness is real
of all the friends I've had
most didn't treat me bad
and love me like a brother
I thank God for all the friends I've had
