    Poem Commentary

    I believe these words were given to me by an angel or maybe some other servant of God.

    "If I"

    One night I awoke at 2:30 A.M. and had these words running through my head.  I didn’t turn the light on, I copied it down in the dark just as it was given to me.  I have always thought that it sounds like a song.  So it is a song.             

            “If I”


    If I were the spirit of an angel

    My home would be eternity


    If I had the spirit of an angel

    A being from above

    My message would be love

    My wonder would be love

                    “Oh Yeah!”

     

    If I were the spirit of an angel

    I’d know the sweetest things

    If I were the guardian of mercy

    I’d know just what to sing

                    “Oh Ah”

     

    If I were our Father’s helper

    No more I’d be a sinner

    If I knew The Heart of Heaven

    I’d be the greatest winner

     

    If I had the spirit of mercy

    My wonder would be love

    My message would be love

     

    I’d know thee greatest treasure

    From the shore of Galilee

     

    If I knew the clean heart of David

    I’d know the greatest joy

    If I were the devil’s conqueror

    He’d have to bow his head

    Acknowledging God’s mercy

    His message from above

     

    If I were the spirit of an angel

    My treasure would be love

     

    I’d be the grateful follower

    Of the Man from Galilee

    I’d know I’m not forsaken

    My God has set me free
