"The Fox"
“The Fox”
I didn’t believe it when she said it
nor do I believe it now
belief was unnecessary in order
to reach my goal
I took her and her two friends
to the mountains
where parks and shining streams
abound
the cabin has been there for generations
our child was conceived there
as many others were
he was born there
he still lives
beneath the grassy fields
of slumber
still we weep in painful wonder
wishing we had never met.
