"American Tears"
"American Tears"
(epilogue)
Many don't know it but Columbus killed or caused to be killed some eighty thousand indigenous people on the island of Hispaniola and other islands he came upon when he "discovered America". As far as I know these were the first of so many American tears. My history might be a bit rusty but the eighty thousand figure is correct. All because their chief refused to give in to the foreigners who turned out to be so cruel to all who stood in their way.
American Tears were shed by the first
who ever lived here
tears brought forth by cruel and greedy men
by those intolerant of others' views as to God
much like countless European tears
tears were shed by those who accused through ignorance and so called morality
tears brought on by 'good men and women that lied
for gain
Salem was a joke, a not so funny to those accused
by jealous or frightened children of their god of evil and sickness
at the outset of our gloriously sad history
many tears were shed in war and death
seems wars are always cause for tears
no country is immune as long as insanity rules
where God is said to be
where He is needed most are tears of misunderstanding
tyranny, the cause of the French American war and our revolution were no different
women shed the most tears but men are not immune
think of the tears for fathers lost, for brothers crippled or dead
our nation was founded on tears
and fears of what defeat would mean
the great Civil War
a fight of misunderstood freedom and slavery
black tears and agony for those who were brought here by force,
enslaved, beaten, and murdered
so many tears unneeded
unheeded by cruel and greedy masters
tears for justice for all of God's children
think of the tears the First World War begot
tears of need denied
brought on by greed defied
tears of all nations,
American Tears for children lost needlessly
brought on by greed quite heedlessly
American deaths,
America wept in World War Two
insane and thoughtless peoples declared war for conquest
tears their sad bequest to all
how many tears were shed at Auschwitz
or Birchenau, how many fears realized
think of the Jews that died
how many tears they cried
how many American Tears were shed
when soldiers saw so many dead
how evil can a people be
when ruled by insanity
did their tears matter
when supremacy's dreams were shattered
did some German's cry
when they wondered why
they were said to be the best
Hitler's sad bequest
surely not all were fooled
by a tyrant so very cruel
how could insanity rule a nation
whose goal was submission to a world of white
how could they see the right
if they didn't even think
of what hate the world could bring
upon a nation of sheep
who found out just how weak they were
I am so glad I missed the opening of the camps
and all the American Tears of compassion for a race
from any and all of the places on Earth
further wars were fought and seems to be our lot
as long as there are such fools that think they are to rule
as long as they can send so many crazy men
to die for a cowardly king that doesn't know a thing
about anything but fear
how many more American Tears?
