"Memories of Youth" ( a night at the Paramount)
“A Night at The Paramount”
We were going to the Paramount, all nine of us. Stevie Winwood was playing, don’t recall the other bands that night. The Paramount always had 2 or 3 really good bands at their shows. For example, I saw Willie Nelson I believe the other band was The Crusaders.
This particular evening we were all wasted on weed and beer. The lineup included me, Don, Danny, Randy his brother, Steve, Jerry, Jimmy, and Johnny. A wilder crowd you couldn’t imagine. There used to be in Seattle, a crowd of gay people that called themselves “The Whiz Kids” It was too crowded by the time they arrived, so they sat in an aisle immediately adjacent to the stage. After the first show and when Stevie Winwood appeared one of them stood up excitedly. This guy was about 6’5 and 235 pounds. He jumps and exclaims in a falsetto voice “oooooh Stevie Winwood! I just have to jack off. Thankfully he didn’t at least not there. We were sitting where an aisle crosses a row and one aisle over from the exit.
About 30 minutes into the show Don stands up to go to the exit to pee in the alley. Don’t ask me why since there were more than adequate facilities in the theatre. Around 10 seconds after he stood he took out his unit and I thought he was going to pee in the aisle; instead he passed out falling back into his seat with his dong hanging out. Meanwhile about six rows back Steve was making out heavily with this young woman which wasn’t a woman but a man in drag. Steve was too blotto to know it.
The scene for the rest of the show was set, Don hanging out unconscious, Steve kissing a drag queen, Danny jumping on the shoulders of strangers, one angrily told him to stop it so Danny did it again only this time yelling louder. All the while the rest of our bunch lauging hysterically. It was an unbelievable funny and incredibly enjoyable show, or should I say shows.
This was how we spent the night at the Paramount.
