Every Day After
It was the day before New Years evemy family was just about to leave
I was remembering a time before
when you walked through that open door
Every day after the last
I look back to see what passed
memories flew right out the window
the night life a crescendo
Was there a love there that I missed
was there a dream I could have kissed
every day after the last
I stare through that shattered glass
I wish that I could hold your hand
and walked on beaches of golden sand
Every day after the last
I recall that horrific crash
the blood spilled onto the street
I watched the EMT's roll you off your feet
the devastation I felt inside
it was like a knife that cut me wide
my eyes stared deep into space
I was left touching your lifeless face
they put the bag over your cadaver
I wish that I still had her
those blue eyes cut through glass
I still remember that day after the crash
I woke up screaming in the night
that telephone pole came into sight
I never saw it, but I heard your scream
the impact sent you into the stream
such a short life, such a long ride
now images flash where nightmares collide
I sank deeper than any man ever could
If I could go back to before I would
just to have you a few minutes longer
every day goes by, I get a lil' stronger
I think about every day that comes to pass
every day isn't like the last
sometimes they go really slow
but your in heaven now I know
things in time will be much better
just wait for me, surely we will have forever
