Love Is a Pair of Sneakers
I once knew a girl named ManuelaShe came from Europe to work, play and sing
But she got some bad advice
For someone told her
Not to bring her shorts, jeans or sneakers
So she went to California in the hot summer sun
All she had were dress shoes to play in
She finally got some new shorts and jeans
But still no sneakers
She then met a man named Michael
They walked and talked and drew real close
And after a year, they did cheer
When they announced their marriage
What a surprise to see on her feet
A pair of white sneakers
Someone did ask where they came from
She said, with a smile on her face
A funny thing happened as we opened our gifts
I gave Michael his, a very nice watch
Then he gave me mine, a big gray box
I opened it slowly and to my shock
It was this pair of white sneakers
I asked him why and he did say
I wanted to give you something you did not have
All the while I noticed that you
Crimped in pain with your black dress shoes
So I went out and got you these
Then that fateful day he arose
As did she and gave each other
Their secret surprises
For him the watch
And with all his love for her
Great joy in his heart
He gave her his gift
This pair of white sneakers
