Showdown in Meridian
A desperate man on the runTrying to find a place of safety
Decides to go home to friends
What he doesn't know is that
His former gang is tracking him
Only a day or so behind
He arrives in Meridian on a Tuesday
Runs into all his old acquaintances
Not one is happy to see him
Then he sees his best friend Josh
Who is now a deputy sheriff
A plan started formulating in his mind
To hide the secret treasure in the church
Next day he finds himself the guest
Of his former gang members
Who are ready to put a bullet or two into him
But he puts them off by telling them that
He had hidden the treasure in the jail
The leader has a plan of his own
To steal the treasure and kill Luke Kelly
It would give him great pleasure
The robbery went off without a hitch
Only to find wax candles in the box
Instead of their illgotten booty
Knowing that Luke tricked them
The leader then turns on the town and
Starts burning the buildings, firstly the jail
Luke then enlists Josh to help him stop
The gang and gives him the treasure
A jeweled crucifix, stolen from another church
The two men corner the gang in a clearing
A shootout ensues, when the smoke clears
The gang is dead and Luke Kelly lay dying
He tells Josh to give the cross to the church
As the other was burned by the gang as they fled
Luke then died in his arms, leaving Josh to be
The hero of the day and bury his friend
Inside the church today, the crucifix still stands
Just where Luke had wanted it to be
