Hollow Tree
Long ago in a forgotten placeSomeone planted a seed
From that seed grew a tree
Which grew to well over fifty feet tall
Many have gone by without notice
Til one day some lovers came by
As lovers do, they carved their initials
Soon from time to time
Others came and went
Carving initials, quietly passing time
Til one day someone found
A knot at the base of the tree
They cut it out and his some treasure
Now the tree had a new purpose
For lovers, secrets and hidden treasure
Many years have passed
Since that seed was planted
Who knows what the planter wished
But the tree had become
Much more than just a tree
Til one day when someone
Passed by and decided
That it was old and just a tree
So they took an axe and cut it down
Using it to light many fires
In a way having an all new purpose
Sadly though no one new
Gets to carve their initials
Or hide secrets and treasures
Only the old friends can drive by
Stop at the stump and dream
Reliving their memories
Of the treasures and pleasures
The hollow tree once bestowed
