A WAY OUT
The door is slammed shut and a shout is heard.
The child huddles in a corner not breathing a word.
As footsteps come closer to her hiding place,
The dingy curtain is moved to hide her face.
A large hand reaches for her leg,
Splinters from the floor slide in her wrist as she begins to beg.
The hand flies down across her head,
TheN “shut up brat!” is all that’s said.
Her body is thrown against the wall.
The ceiling then appears to fall.
As the huge body comes towards her once more,
She sees a foot and feels a sharp pain as she slides to the floor.
Large men enter yanking the huge frame across the room.
Shouts and curses are heard and the fighting resumes.
The world turns black and voices are hollow.
Gentle hands lift her to a warm embrace.
Her heart speeds up then slows to an even pace.
Tears slide across her cheeks and down her chin,
She now prepares for a new life to begin.
