    Just my thoughts on words spelled not like they sound. Drives me crazy. I know there or tons more, I just touched on a few.

    ANNOYING WORDS

     

     

    Are you like me,

    And find some words;

    Spelled needlessly?

     

    Why isn’t it spelled Arkansaw(Arkansas)

    And why is it spelled Mackinac,

    Rather than Mackinaw?

     

    It makes me weary,

    That the spelling is;

    February

    Rather then Febuary.

     

     

    What do you have to say about the way;

    They spell Wensday(Wednesday)?

     

    What was the word master’s ploy;

    To create such words,

    That annoy?

    Ah, the questions of those of us who learned to spell phonically instead of by rote. Yes, I have somewhat of an answer to you queries. English is a hodgepodge of languages all in one and this is because the island of England was conquered by most everybody and brought the conquerors brought with them their languages. Then the British conquered many worlds and adopted some of the native languages and those words became part of the vernacular. Then the US is a melting pot with many nationalities and their languages. So, we are a bit of this and a bit of that. Now, I know this is not a serious poem and points out the absurdities of our spelling and I am not a great speller and happy to have spell-checker on my computer. Love, peace and freedom, Olan.

    Hey guys. We drive in parkways and park in driveways and talk like "waddle I do without you?" , how about "it may be he is "right and maybe he isn't. English, how hard to learn for outsiders. Nice little piece. By or is it bye or buy the way. I give up. The r in February is pronouned as in brew. Thanks for the poem, nice read.

    When I was a kid, I thought it was pronounced Mackinac. LOL

    Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
