Empty Eyes
Are we worth the sacrifice of others?
One of these days you’ll wake up and I won’t be there,
There’ll be no trace of the boy
And the man is just a shadow
His eyes won’t see you,
His mind won’t know you,
It will be as if he, and you, never were,
His dreams won’t feature your loving smile,
He won’t feel your gentle touch
Won’t respond to your terrified words
Trapped as he is within the waking terror
The endless cycle of repeating noise,
Bombs that never cease,
Light which never fades,
Instead of you he hears the screams
Of innocents his bombs have slain,
Your life can’t factor in this dream,
Your innocence and love
A vivid reminder of those now dead,
The country his boss has said they saved
Just a burning hulk,
Its blood a constant reminder
Of what could have been
He doesn’t care for anything anymore,
He doesn’t care for anyone anymore
He can’t care anymore
The pain just grows and grows
I can’t breath anymore,
My lungs clogging with ash,
I can only exist in memory
I can only exist in sorrow,
I can’t exist.
