A Single Step
Try walking for a thousand steps
In a lonely strangers treads
Then sit and watch a dawn you’ve never seen
Think back to all the places you have been
And remember, remember that stranger is you,
All those silent, forgotten dreams were true,
The reflection in the mirror smiles
But it’s not your face staring back
It’s the twisted creation of your trials
An embodiment of your heart, black,
In that moment you can see no light
There are no more smiles to your equation
Your memories eclipsed by some greater might
The timeless run of a damaged evolution,
You have to consider, as you turn away in disgust,
If the human race is still worth saving,
If you are a product of its greatness, its lust,
Its wars and tribulations, you’re all it’s creating,
