A Ghost
A ghost’s touch,
Blistering my skin,
While the fire
Laps at my feet
And yet I feel no heat,
My body burns
From your dead touch
My soul fights free
Vision cleared
I look around me
And I see all
I see you
I see her,
The world’s beauty
In the whispering breeze,
The gull cries out
And I watch its flight
The freedom in the wind
Peace from mortal strain.
My body is dying,
The fingers turned,
A numbness spreading
Through my hands,
I watch it happen
And even smile
A small sad one
Never thought it would end
Not like this
I was supposed to have my glory
Bathed in the blood
Found in hard earned battle,
I can see my foe
A shadow in the mirror
Will they even come closer?
I wish to see my enemy
They hide in shadow
But I will find a burning branch
Thrust it to them
And watch them burn,
Never thought I would leave
All this unfinished business
They don’t even know
That, at last, I have found them,
A smile graces my lips
The first true one in years
And they do not see
The sword I wield
They laugh behind me
Thinking themselves safe,
Blistering my skin,
While the fire
Laps at my feet
And yet I feel no heat,
My body burns
From your dead touch
My soul fights free
Vision cleared
I look around me
And I see all
I see you
I see her,
The world’s beauty
In the whispering breeze,
The gull cries out
And I watch its flight
The freedom in the wind
Peace from mortal strain.

And even smile
