Funeral Pyre
When he died they laid him out
So all could come for one last glance
Approaching filled with fear
Watching as his image became clear
I who am alive living the future
To see whose past I now behold
While the hours and minutes tick by in control
One trembling hand reaches in
To feel flesh, dead and cold
As if this image had to be sold
To my disbelieving mind
We file on by to pay respect
To the man who lived but now is dead
Life will never be the same
Now that you are gone
Lying before me unexplained
They tell me it was your time
To fall into the vast beyond
But all I know is the emptiness now you are gone
All I have now are my memories of the past
And as each cold day come to pass
I hope that they will last
So all could come for one last glance
Approaching filled with fear
Watching as his image became clear
I who am alive living the future
To see whose past I now behold
While the hours and minutes tick by in control
One trembling hand reaches in
To feel flesh, dead and cold
As if this image had to be sold
To my disbelieving mind
We file on by to pay respect
To the man who lived but now is dead
Life will never be the same
Now that you are gone
Lying before me unexplained
They tell me it was your time
To fall into the vast beyond
But all I know is the emptiness now you are gone
All I have now are my memories of the past
And as each cold day come to pass
I hope that they will last
