Smiling from the Sea
Sitting here, quietly,
Watching a lone gull
Sweep across the sky,
I wonder at its freedom
As I listen to the piercing cry,
Night has come,
Again I sit at this same window
Watching a different scene
A convoluted road
Packed with multi-colored people
They know nothing of freedom
I am trapped as they
On this mortal plane
Dreaming of the dance
Played in sky,
I don't sit there anymore,
I've left the windows dream,
My wall is plastered top
To battered bottom
With pictures of the past,
They show me life
As we should know it
They show me death
As we should know it
I smile,
The foolish girl
Who sat, watching the gull
Is gone, lost in life,
She walks head bowed,
Submissive to her fate,
Stopping she holds out a hand
Palm upwards to feel
She feels each drop of rain
Running across her palm
And smiles
Turning to the sea
She lies on the beach,
Sand bubbling between fingers
The tide lapping at toes
She smiles,
**
It's morning now
I always wake early
To fish the mornings breakfast
Taking my rod and oars
I head towards the sea
Whistling a merry tune
Looking around my boat
I spy a figure floating
Face towards the sun
Running, I cry out,
I know this girl
She is my own!
**
He looks at her blank eyes
Knows death has come
And freezes at the smile
That graces her cold lips
**
I feel the water all around
Burning my cold limbs,
I sense its power,
It's freedom and delight
As it sweeps me away,
It's filling my mouth
I can hardly breath
But now it doesn't matter,
Covering my eyes
I still see the blurry moon,
All is quiet here
I am free
I smile...
Watching a lone gull
Sweep across the sky,
I wonder at its freedom
As I listen to the piercing cry,
