The taught religion
In youth I was taught to follow the way of God,
A being far beyond my young reasoning,
So I learnt my lessons well,
And prayed as I’d been taught,
Yet each new day brough yet another pain,
Till I saw God as some cruel being,
Delighting in our hurt,
And I don’t understand why,
I can’t get a break, death and pain,
Cling to me growing stronger
In their power, exploding in strength,
Till I am reduced to nothing,
No thoughts or feelings,
Just an endless ache I can’t explain,
Of something I had been taught to love
And turned into a reasoning I hate.
A being far beyond my young reasoning,
So I learnt my lessons well,
And prayed as I’d been taught,
Yet each new day brough yet another pain,
Till I saw God as some cruel being,
Delighting in our hurt,
And I don’t understand why,
I can’t get a break, death and pain,
Cling to me growing stronger
In their power, exploding in strength,
Till I am reduced to nothing,
No thoughts or feelings,
Just an endless ache I can’t explain,
Of something I had been taught to love
And turned into a reasoning I hate.
