Platform, Waiting
I waited for you on the platform,
Felt like a fool straight from
Those silly romances you used to read,
Dressed in my best,
A red scarf to mark my spot,
And wilting flowers, clasped in clamy hands,
I saw your steamer ride electric cables,
Pulling to a screaching stop,
While wraiths from every nation
Desended, brushing past
With that carefully crafted distain,
Seeing my faded suit,
And hopeful smile,
You never came,
At least you never stopped,
So I wonder have I changed so much?
Perhaps we hoped to find,
The young teen,
Pimply and cowed,
But we all grow old,
Peppered hair, wrinkles,
These are the signs of something past,
That we didn't roll over and die
I think I know why you didn't stay,
Or even stop to say hello,
You are a woman lost in finery,
Passing a frantic life,
To cease the aging process,
Working each day to loss the previous,
Never quite catching up,
So you run from the one person
Who knew your face before,
Sees where you came from
And where you're heading to.
Felt like a fool straight from
Those silly romances you used to read,
Dressed in my best,
A red scarf to mark my spot,
And wilting flowers, clasped in clamy hands,
I saw your steamer ride electric cables,
Pulling to a screaching stop,
While wraiths from every nation
Desended, brushing past
With that carefully crafted distain,
Seeing my faded suit,
And hopeful smile,
You never came,
At least you never stopped,
So I wonder have I changed so much?
Perhaps we hoped to find,
The young teen,
Pimply and cowed,
But we all grow old,
Peppered hair, wrinkles,
These are the signs of something past,
That we didn't roll over and die
I think I know why you didn't stay,
Or even stop to say hello,
You are a woman lost in finery,
Passing a frantic life,
To cease the aging process,
Working each day to loss the previous,
Never quite catching up,
So you run from the one person
Who knew your face before,
Sees where you came from
And where you're heading to.
