A Dark Fear
When you are scared of the darkThey turn a night light on,
They never seem to understand,
Or ever really care to ask,
Why is the child so happy and afraid,
Why does the child always smile,
Why does she never cry,
Why do her eyes stare back a million miles?
So they turn on the light,
To show her there a no monster here,
But little do they know the monster so dear,
The one who should have stood,
And sung her songs to sleep,
Read fictitious tales of hero's
And all the promises they keep,
Stead he's the one she never wants to see,
He's the one standing by the lights,
He's the one baying for her blood,
She never saw the mothers eyes,
She never saw the watcher ever there,
Only the shadow made of steal,
She never thought betrayal came in pairs,
She never cried until,
Until she knew she was there fairy tale,
The guilty pleasure,
The perverse fear,
She was to them an elixir,
Sweet and oh to young,
She was the child who never spoke
Of the monster from her dreams,
Little girl where are you now?
Little girl what do you feel?
When now after the years,
You are the only one left standing,
Little girl do you regret,
That monster came to be?
Little girl are you still afraid
Of the dark that holds not secrets?
Little girl, will you become the monster
Whom you so despised....
