Wasteful Youth
I think the valleys I used to know
Resent God’s raining power,
I think the captain on his boat
Bows only to the waves colossal height
And the wife who waits
So dutifully at home,
Kneels only in affection
To pray his safe return,
For what I’ve seen of life
Reflected in still water,
Shows the wasteful use of youth,
So passionate and full of promise
For days that will not come
And hours they cannot tell,
For every man and woman
Who has ever walked this earth
Survived the ravishes of time
Knows when they see a child
Who will not pass the barriers
And flourish from his youth
