Alone in the End
Dust, a particle of being
I'm drifting, lost in space,
Blackness consuming my soul
Doesn't matter,
Not now, nothing does
Cos it's just me, alone
S'pose it was always going to end this way
You gone, lost beneath the earth
Or drifting on the wind
Blown or beaten into ash,
While I flesh and bones
Linger on,
I never went to see you,
Well not since your coffin
Fell, ungraceful, silent in its tomb,
Promised I would come,
This year at least
Ten years you know
Since I saw you,
I was just a child then
Didn't understand, maybe
If I had been a better child
A better person
You wouldn't have left me,
Alone, so back to that,
That cruel, quick word
Slips off the tongue,
To blanket the world's screams,
I remember my one last hope,
The moment I saw two paths,
Life was clear for one moment,
But I barely four
Did not understand what I saw,
The words I spoke in fear
Should never have been uttered,
The story I let slip
Not from my fairy tales,
That was long ago,
When I still saw in black and white,
And couldn't see concequences,
Didn't even know the word,
But still, ignorance
Does not cover all sins,
If I had said nothing
You would have lived,
What is one child's unknown happiness
Compared to life itself?
Nothing,
If I could only
Rewind my clock
My life, forfet
For you,
All for you and him,
The dreams you forged
Before I entered your life
Murder, crime, punishable by death
So I offer all I can
But it's not enough
And I'm alone
The only penance I can pay
Until the final day
When I offer the last of what remains,
For a forgiveness I don't deserve,
But child who cowered in a corner
Now takes the stand,
She steps for the final move
Checkmate,
A life for a life
Reversed,
Time,
Dead,
The End
I'm drifting, lost in space,
Blackness consuming my soul
Doesn't matter,
Not now, nothing does
Cos it's just me, alone
S'pose it was always going to end this way
You gone, lost beneath the earth
